Signs of a Pigeon Infestation

If you have a pigeon infestation, then you’ll be hearing a lot of scratching as they move about as well as their calling sounds to one another. Commonly found in roof guttering and loft spaces, these birds can become hard to deal with. So, give us a call if you hear any of the common signs of a pigeon infestation. Never try to deal with the issue yourself, as pigeons can carry a wide variety of disease that you may have adverse reactions to.

The Threat They Pose

All forms of birds have the potential to become pests. Roosting birds can cause damage to buildings and properties through their droppings, gathering in large numbers on roofs and properties – they spread disease carrying infections and infestations such as mites, beetles and fleas, all of which are attracted to their nests and roosting sites, they also carry diseases such as e coli and salmonella. A lot of birds can become aggressive especially during breeding season when they are trying to protect their young.

Groups of pigeons gathered in large amounts don’t just make unsightly mess through their droppings but can also make part of a walk way or door entrance area potentially unsafe and slippery for the public causing a major health and safety concern. When gathering on roofs they can weaken and dislodge roof tiles and other fixtures and fittings, leading to tiles and fittings potentially falling on passers by below. Birds can also block guttering affecting the drainage of the roofs system. As well as damaging buildings birds can prove costly in the damage of vehicles, their droppings regularly burn through car paint and bodywork causing permanent damage.
