Fleas

Fleas

Due to their minute size and how quickly an infestation can grow, the flea is a common pest to find in homes. They are more common in households with pets such as dogs, cats, rabbits and hamsters – mainly animals with coats and fur which fleas can inhabit and cling onto. Fleas do not have wings so they don’t fly however they have outstanding jumping capabilities and can jump from one person to another or one pet to another without you being able to spot this happening.

Flea Treatments

Fleas are not exclusive to the homes of pet owners – say for example you have just moved into a new property and a previous owner or tenant had kept animals and although you have cleaned the property an infestation of fleas could still be at large. Fleas can also find their way into your home through a variety of means, from shoes and boots to clothes and jackets which may have been near a flea and it has jumped onto yours and now it is in your home and is spreading – it can be that quick and simple. Another reason to have these pests dealt with immediately by JWL is due to the fact that fleas are often carried by other types of pest such as wild rabbits, foxes, squirrels, rats and mice.

Flea Removal

So on top of having these to deal with you may end up with a flea infestation requiring different types of treatment over and above your initial pest problem. A flea bite – although not very painful can cause a very bad skin and body reaction, leading to unpleasant itches and rash breakouts – these signs are relevant to people as well as family pets. Flea bites can develop into allergies if left untreated in both humans and animals. JWL Pest Control provides a host of treatments for fleas – with a mix of chemical treatments and cleansing methods we will ensure you are rid of any fleas within your property – depending on the severity of an infestation it can sometimes take more than one round of treatment to completely eradicate the presence of fleas.

Signs of Infestation

Signs to watch out for which are a strong indicator of a flea infestation are: Droppings or flea dirt on a dog’s coat – these are tiny little black dots which at first glance may just look like dirt but could be something more sinister. Signs to look out for upon your person, as well as your pets, are excessive scratching or itching, hair loss, scabs and rashes on the skin.
