Signs to look for that will tell you if you have a Beetle infestation are: Beetles which damage foodstuffs – Look out for beetle tracks through floury dust as they move from one food source to the next, also be on the lookout for any droppings they may leave behind on their travels. For fabric, Beetles check along the edges of carpets and in the creases and stitching of stored clothing – if an infestation is not immediately noticeable from holes and general damage from them – look for clusters or mounds of little black dots which could indicate a small infestation starting and about to spread.
There are three main kinds of beetle, the kind that destroys food and foodstuffs, the kind that destroys and eat through wood and the kind that destroy and eat through fabrics and similar materials. Food destroying beetles can be a major problem for homes and businesses such as restaurants, cafes and food shops – they are known for ruining entire stocks of food and ingredients as well as leading to the need for a complete decontamination of all food surfaces and storage areas which they may or may not have come into contact with. This will, in turn, mean more cost, time and loss of business for you.
Beetles are not as much of a health risk as some other forms of pests but they still need to be dealt with quickly and professionally as they can lead to untold amounts of damage once they start destroying what they are infesting. Beetles that like to infest fabric-based materials such as clothing, upholstery and carpets – as well as the larva, eating holes through these fabrics and destroying them, the fabric fibres which they have come into contact with becomes contaminated, this means that the fibres and particles from the infested materials when they become airborne in the environment around us can and often cause reactions such as a rash or reaction on your skin, it can also lead to respiratory problems and eye irritations.
